05 - Reference Element

Duration: 2 min 15 sec
Chapter 5 introduces the Reference Element in Neos which allows you to use instances of an element that automatically update when the base element is changed.

Welcome back to the Neos Training created for you by Paints Multimedia.

In this chapter we will take a closer look at Reference Elements.

After logging in to Neos, we are in the backend of our training website again.

With the reference element you can mirror already finished content from one subpage to a desired location. This way you do not have to create the same content twice and you only have to edit the source element if you make changes. The linked reference elements update their content automatically.

Here is a step by step example on how to create a reference element:

First you select a destination, in this case we are currently on the page “Menu 2”.

Then click on the plus button on the left side and choose “XY Row”. You can give the element a name within the inspector on the right side. In this example we call it “Mirror”.

Now, we add an image element within the xy Row and choose a file via the media library. On the right side of the xy row we add a text element.

In the next step we create a new page via the “plus” button again and name it “Reference”.  Within this new page we can now add the reference element. For that we go to the “plus” button and choose “Insert content references”.

On the right side we can now select the correct reference element by typing in the name of our created element.

Now, the same XY row is displayed within the new page.

You have now finished the training about the Reference Elements within Neos.

In the next video we will cover the Media Library. Thank you for your attention.
